EC1004 · Kirchhoff's laws: analyse circuits like an engineer

After this module, you can solve circuits with two sources using KCL and KVL, calculate the voltage "lost" in connecting wires, and understand why electricity is transmitted at very high voltages. Specifically, you can:

  • State KCL and KVL in your own words, with everyday examples.
  • Apply the sign convention when going around a loop through resistors and sources.
  • Solve two-source circuits in 5 steps and verify the results in the virtual circuit lab.
  • Explain the voltage drop in connecting wires and why electricity is transmitted at high voltage.

Time: about 3 hours: Reading, interactive lesson, Lab 4, Quiz 4 and Assignment 4.
