Sample project 2: Cable Continuity Tester
Test the 3 wires inside a cable: each wire is connected to an LED and a resistor; the LED lights up when the wire is unbroken.
Requirements
- Calculate the resistors for the LEDs (5 V supply, red LED 2.0 V).
- Simulate 3 cases: good cable, 1 broken wire, 1 wire with poor contact (a large resistance makes the LED dim); explain them with measurements.
- Faults to create and fix: one broken wire and one wire with poor contact — find them with the 6-step process.
Level: Basic · Modules applied: EC1001, EC1003 · Team time: about 4 hours
This is a worked sample project: go through all the steps to see how a team does a project, then apply it to your own team's topic.
