Sample project 6: Mini Solar Power System
A 12 V supply represents a solar panel (through the wire resistance and a charge controller), together with a 6 V battery and a lamp.
Requirements
- Write and solve the KCL and KVL equations for two cases: sunny (the solar panel lights the lamp and charges the battery) and battery full; compare with the simulation.
- Calculate the percentage of energy lost in the wires.
- Faults to create and fix: a burnt-out lamp; a loose battery connection.
Level: Advanced · Module applied: EC1004 · Team time: about 6 hours
This is a worked sample project: go through all the steps to see how a team does a project, then apply it to your own team's topic.
