Sample project 3: Safe Bedroom Wiring Panel
A 12 V scale model of a bedroom wiring panel: a lamp, a fan and a charging socket connected in parallel, each with its own switch, plus a main fuse.
Requirements
- Calculate the current and power of each branch and the total current when everything is on.
- Choose a fuse rated higher than the total current with everything on; show that the fuse blows in a short circuit.
- Faults to create and fix: a short circuit at the charging socket; an open circuit at the fan switch.
Level: Basic · Modules applied: EC1001, EC1002, EC1003 · Team time: about 5 hours
This is a worked sample project: go through all the steps to see how a team does a project, then apply it to your own team's topic.
