Sample project 5: Model EV Battery Pack
Design a battery pack from 3.7 V cells (simulated as 3.7 V supplies with an internal resistance of 0.1 Ω) to run a load equivalent to a motor (5 Ω).
Requirements
- Compare 3 cells in series (3S1P) with 3 in series × 2 in parallel (3S2P): voltage, current and power in the load, and the current through each cell.
- Explain why adding a parallel string lets the car run for longer.
- Faults to create and fix: one cell connected backwards; one open connection.
Level: Intermediate · Modules applied: EC1002, EC1004 · Team time: about 5 hours
This is a worked sample project: go through all the steps to see how a team does a project, then apply it to your own team's topic.
